We can say how committed Mazda is to your safety around Arroyo Grande all we like at Santa Maria Mazda, but it will never have the same weight as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) saying it. Every year, the IIHS gives out two sets of awards for the safest models of the year: Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+. For the second year in a row, every single Mazda vehicle the IIHS tested won a Top Safety Pick+ award.
What Does it Take to Win the Top Safety Pick+ Award?
In order to win either award, the car must receive good ratings in six crashworthiness tests: driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint.
To win just a Top Safety Pick award, the model must have front crash prevention driver-assist technology available with an advanced or superior rating for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian. It must also have acceptable or good headlights available.
To win a Top Safety Pick+ award, however, these features must be standard, and that’s exactly what Mazda has done across its lineup. The only 2021 models in the lineup that didn't win this award are the Mazda MX-5 Miata and Mazda MX-5 Miata RF sports cars, which the IIHS did not test.
Mazda's Commitment to You
Mazda continually improves and advances its safety technology to be the best that it can be and still be standard in every model. Mazda's i-Activsense covers all sorts of amazing technologies like its Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, which allowed Mazda models to receive superior ratings on vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention, and several also received superior ratings for vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention.
This system also includes High Beam Control and Adaptive Front-Lighting System. These systems help you by turning your high beams on and off depending on the surrounding traffic conditions in San Luis Obispo and turn the headlights to provide extra light around curves. You'll find LED projector headlights on every Mazda model, giving you high-quality lighting on Lompoc roads.
More Amazing Driver-Assist Technology for Safe Drives Around Grover Beach
Mazda doesn't just have the features the IIHS looks for. Each model also includes Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The first part of this feature alerts you if there is a car in your blind spot, preventing you from accidentally merging into the path of another vehicle. The second part will alert you if you're backing out of a Nipomo parking space or in a similar scenario and a car is crossing your path. That way, you can be alert to dangers even when you can't see them.
Many Mazda models also include Driver Attention Alert. When you are driving above 40 mph, the system learns your driving patterns. It watches you inputs and how the vehicle moves to establish a baseline. Then if it ever detects your behavior drifting from the learned data in a way that suggests you may be losing concentration or focus, it will warn you and suggest you take a break with a chime and a notification in the Multi-Information Display.
